These are the terms for using Cella. They are short on purpose. By making an account you agree to them.
Cella is a Bible study web app at cella.bible. It gives you Scripture texts and study resources to read and work through. It is built and run by David Whitlow, a sole owner in the United States.
Cella is free to use.
Cella accounts are for the United States for now. You can create an account from the United States and its territories: Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. From anywhere else, signup is refused.
If you already have an account and you travel, it keeps working. Cella does not cut off access because you are abroad. Sign in from Britain, Kenya, Japan, wherever you are. Nothing is withdrawn.
These pages and the public parts of the site are readable from anywhere. Reading is not signing up.
If you are outside the United States and you cannot get in yet, it is not about you. Cella is one person, and running a service properly under another country's laws means learning them properly first. It is better to say not yet than to say yes badly. If that changes, this page changes with it, and you are welcome to write and ask.
You need an email address and a password. You also have to be at least 13. Signup asks for your birth year, and if it puts you under 13 the account is not created.
Keep the password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else is in it, change your password and tell us.
One person, one account. Do not share your login.
Cella is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. There is no promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of errors, that the texts will be free of typos, or that it will suit any particular purpose. It is a free app made by one person.
Back up anything you would be upset to lose. Cella has a download-everything button and it is there to be used.
"As-is" means you take the app as you find it. If it goes down for a day, or a verse reference is wrong, that is a thing to report and get fixed, not a thing to claim against.

Reading the texts is what Cella is for. Hoovering them out of it is not, and it costs a solo owner real money in bandwidth. If you want the underlying texts in bulk, they are public domain and you can get them at the source. Just ask and you will be pointed there.
The Scripture texts and study texts in Cella are public domain. They are not owned by Cella and Cella claims nothing over them. You are free to read, quote, copy, teach from, and share them. That is the point of them.
The Tyndale Open Study Notes and the Tyndale Open Bible Dictionary are different, and come with one condition. They are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0). If you reuse them anywhere, you must:

Cella's own software, design, layout and branding are not public domain and stay with the owner. The texts are yours to use. The app around them is not.
Cella can keep a log of which passages and sources you open, but only if you switch it on. It starts off. The app works exactly the same either way, and your membership does not depend on it. You can switch it off later, and switching it off deletes the log already collected. The Privacy Notice explains why Cella handles it that way.
The first 100 readers who join are founding members. Founding membership is $14.99 for your entire first year, paid once when you join. Your membership and its end date are recorded on your account where you can see them. It is not conditional on turning on the reading log or on anything else optional.
The $14.99 first year is the only price guaranteed to founding members. Before your first year ends, you will be told by email what the annual or monthly subscription will cost from then on, with enough time to decide. You can choose to continue or to cancel before anything new is charged. If you cancel, your account does not close and nothing you saved is deleted.
You can leave at any time. There is a delete button in the app. It removes your account and everything with it, immediately and for good. No email, no form, no waiting on a reply, and no window in which it could be brought back.
Cella can close your account if you break these terms, particularly section 5, or if the law requires it. Where it is reasonable you will get a warning and a chance to fix it first. For serious abuse, such as attacking the service or other accounts, the account closes immediately.
Cella may also stop running altogether. If that happens you will be given reasonable notice and a chance to download your data before it goes.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Cella and its owner are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including lost data, lost time, or lost profits.
Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you have paid to use Cella. Cella is free, so that amount is zero.
Nothing here removes rights you have that cannot be signed away.
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. For anything that materially affects you, you will be told in the app or by email before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of North Carolina. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts serving Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
